Circumstances: Jason Scott Adkins was fishing on the Ohio River with his brother on Jan. 17, 1999, when the boat they were in had engine failure. The men's boat capsized after a passing barge caused a series of large waves. Jason Scott Adkins' brother was able to get out of the river and go for help; however, Adkins disappeared and has not been heard from since.
As search and rescue crews arrived, they reported it appeared as if someone had exited the water in an area that was different from where his brother would've left the wreckage.
Since Adkins was behind in his child support, police suggested that Jason Scott Adkins could've faked his death. Neither his estranged wife, nor his family, believe Jason Scott Adkins faked his death given that he only was $200 behind in child support.
No trace of Jason Scott Adkins was located in the river, and it is unclear if he drowned.
